Starbucks operates 72 stores across Australia, having opened 10 new locations in 2023. In 2024, Starbucks has set out to open one new store a month which would increase the number of new hires a month by more than 30.

Starbucks decided it was better to tackle this huge increase in hiring by employing smart automation rather than throwing more manpower at the problem.

By introducing Sapia.ai’s Smart Interviewer for all of their store hiring, the Starbucks team doubled their recruitment volumes while reducing the time spent on screening by 160 hours per month.

What’s more, by giving every candidate an interview, the hiring team is able to reach candidates that have the right mix of soft skills and growth mindset they need, who previously may have been overlooked due to lack of experience.
