Ambu is a medical device company that helps healthcare professionals save lives and improve patient care. It does this by providing customers with innovative solutions that optimise workflow, reduce cost and improve patient care.
Danielle Savaglio joined Ambu as APAC Regional HR Director following a long career in organisational psychology, consulting and in-house HR leadership.
“I’ve worked in the area of psychometrics for more than three decades. My first role was using psychometrics as part of recruitment selection,” explains Danielle.
It was at a leadership meeting where the values were discussed that Danielle identified how she could use her depth of organisational psychology know-how, and new technology together to serve the business. “One of our leaders from the US stood up and said, ‘Really loving the values. They really speak to me and link to successes that I’ve seen across the business. Wouldn’t it be great if we could get an idea of how people align with our values before they start with us?’ Hearing that, I thought: yeah, that’s absolutely possible,” shares Danielle.
“Sapia.ai.ai caught my eye, because for the first time in three decades, I felt like there was a tool that enabled you to look at personality in a cost-effective way.” – Danielle Savaglio, Global Organisation Development Lead, Ambu
“I’d noticed that as the years progressed more and more psychometric tools came onto the market, but they were still really expensive. You knew that they were computer generated, so it didn’t really make sense. That’s really where Sapia.ai separates itself from the rest. It also means that you can use the assessment at the beginning of the recruitment process, as opposed to waiting until you have maybe one or two candidates at the end of the process,” says Danielle.
Ambu worked with Sapia.ai to design a smart chat experience with Sapia.ai’s Chat Interview, which revealed whether the applicant’s values were aligned with Ambu’s, calling it the ‘Ambu chat’.
Every applicant completes the interview, and recruiters can view a shortlist of applicants who score highly in terms of alignment with the company’s values.
Recruiters can dig down into candidates’ trait scores and use that insight to inform their own shortlists.
Having a cost-effective automation tool also means it can be used for low-volume as well as high-volume recruiting. Ambu hires for predominantly white-collar roles.
In addition to providing a consistent experience for every candidate that reduces bias, Sapia.ai improves candidate experience.
“It’s almost like doing an interview without actually meeting the candidate. When you do look at the CV, you’re able to align that with the Ambu chat results. It’s a massive time saver for HR, but not only that, the candidate gets feedback at that early stage as well. It’s win:win,” shares Danielle.
Ambu chat results aren’t the only deciding factor on whether or not to hire someone, but they provide valuable context. “We use it for understanding what development they might need and what their strengths might be in the role. We’re using it as you would a traditional psychometric assessment as part of recruitment and selection,” says Danielle.
“I believe that the results pretty much reflect who I am as a person, and it helps me to understand my behavior at work better.”
“I think that the test is very personal, and that’s great.“
“Thank you for the feedback as this is the first time I have been given constructive feedback and gives me insight to improve my strengths and self well being.”
“It was quite an interesting result. It gave me a chance to learn more about my own personality and behavior. I would like to use this as a reference to re-evaluate myself.”
“It is interesting how based on 5 to 6 questions can describe myself like this. I am totally agreed on the insights and on the coaching really impressed how this reflect reality.”
“The coaching tip, is absolutely spot on.“
“Great to look back at some wonderful experiences and achievements I haven’t thought about in ages. Thank you!”
“Great questions to quickly have a sense of working style and leadership skills of a candidate. :)“
“It was a great experience, I was able to remember a lot of good things that had positively impact my career and overall my life.”
“I appreciated the thought provoking questions, considering my past successes and challenges.”
“I actually enjoyed answering those questions, it gave me the time to reflect on my previous experiences and my time back in the Corporate world. As a matter of fact, it was a great exercise to prepare for my incoming interview.”
“Thanks for the time to get to know me, I really appreciate it.”
