Love-jection: a free AI career coach for every candidate who doesn’t get the job

We launched Love-jection, a free AI career coach for every candidate who applies to a Sapia.ai customer and doesn’t get the role. Candidates who aren’t the right fit are invited to have a confidential conversation with Phai, our AI coach, to understand their strengths and find the jobs that suit them.

Love-jection is free for every Sapia.ai customer. It’s our gift to candidates – because we know how hard it is applying for roles.

Candidates have been at the centre of how we’ve built our platform, since 2018. We started with a mission to give everyone an interview, and every applicant who completes our AI interview already receives personalised feedback on their strengths. Love-jection is the next logical step: the moment someone is turned down now becomes the moment they learn what they’re good at.

We announced Love-jection at UNLEASH World Paris in October 2026.

Youth unemployment and the skills people struggle to see in themselves

UK youth unemployment stands at 16.4%, according to the latest government figures. Behind that stat are young people drowning in a sea of applications without a clear sense of what they’re good at or which roles would suit them.

Skills-based hiring assumes candidates know their own skills and can describe them. Many can’t, and as jobs change, the skills that matter keep shifting. Across over 10 million Sapia.ai interviews, 80% of candidates say AI feedback on their skills increased their self-awareness.

Rejection is when that feedback matters most, and it’s when candidates usually get the least. Most hear nothing back from potential employers, or receive a templated email that says nothing about what they did well or where to look next. For a young person early in their search, the silence can be incredibly demotivating.

How Phai, our AI career coach, works

An AI career coach is a conversational tool that helps people understand their strengths and find roles that suit them. Phai starts with evidence: every applicant has already completed a structured, text-based AI interview that measures their skills against a role, and Phai uses that interview as its starting point.

A coaching conversation with Phai follows four stages:

  1. Introduce. Phai gets to know the candidate’s interests, experience and career goals.
  2. Discover. Open questions draw out their skills and working style.
  3. Reflect. Phai summarises what it has learned and checks with the candidate that it has understood them correctly.
  4. Guide. Phai offers plain-language, judgement-free guidance on where to go next, including open roles from the employer’s ATS or external job boards that suit the candidate.

Phai works from a framework of 25 competencies, developed by industrial and organisational psychologists from an analysis of more than 37,000 job descriptions. It’s available on any device, whenever the candidate is ready.

Conversations are confidential. Employers see aggregated insights only, never what an individual candidate told Phai.

Why Love-jection is free for every Sapia.ai customer

We’ve always been on the candidate’s side. Every candidate who completes a Sapia.ai interview receives personalised feedback on their strengths. Through our Authentic Transparency initiative, candidates are told before they start why an employer uses AI, how it works and how fairness is measured. They’re assessed only on what they choose to share in their interview.

Love-jection carries our commitment to candidates past the hiring decision. We want every candidate to leave with something useful, and we don’t want cost to be the reason an employer can’t offer it. So there’s no charge to Sapia.ai customers, and no charge to candidates.

“We’ve always been on the candidate’s side, giving them agency in a market that too often treats them as data to be filtered. Most people don’t know their own skills, and with jobs changing this fast, how could they? Self-awareness is a gift, and rejection is the moment people need it most.”

Barb Hyman, Founder and CEO, Sapia.ai

What Love-jection means for employers

Large employers turn away far more people than they hire. For consumer brands, many of those applicants are also customers, and how a rejection feels shapes whether they keep buying, recommend the brand or apply again.

Love-jection gives talent teams a way to make sure every applicant gets something of value from the process. Because Phai can suggest other open roles in the employer’s ATS, a candidate who isn’t right for one job may find another they’re better suited to.

Frequently asked questions

What is Love-jection? Love-jection is a Sapia.ai initiative that gives every unsuccessful job applicant free access to Phai, an AI career coach, so they can understand their strengths and find roles that suit them. It launched at UNLEASH World in Paris in October 2026.

Is Love-jection free? Yes. Love-jection is free for every Sapia.ai customer and free for candidates.

What is Phai? Phai is Sapia.ai’s AI career coach. It holds a confidential conversation with a candidate, summarises their goals, strengths and working style, and suggests where they could go next, including relevant open roles.

How is an AI career coach different from a careers chatbot? Phai starts from a structured interview that has already measured the candidate’s skills against a role. Its guidance builds on that evidence, as well as on what the candidate tells it.

How can an AI coach help with youth unemployment? Many young people apply for jobs without a clear sense of their strengths, and rejection rarely tells them anything useful. An AI coach gives them feedback at that moment, so their next application is better informed. UK youth unemployment currently stands at 16.4%.

Can employers see what candidates tell Phai? No. Coaching conversations are confidential, and employers see aggregated insights only.
